Ugh

So three things could've gone better on the ride today.

First, I was trying innertube under the sole where the metal cleat and hardware is. Can't report on the success of this because I failed to recognize that most of the cold air was coming in from the top right above my toes where there was venting. Black duct tape here I come!

Secondly, after I finished, I took a look at my cranks and noticed 2 chainring bolts were gone completely. the remaining 3 were holding on for dear life.

Lastly, I forgot fucking WATER!

Besides that, it was good. Route was 10mi out and back with only one dog sprint.

Bishop Bikes

The coplete set over at their Flickr. Lots more bike porn to look at, and to make whatever you're riding seem inadequate and ugly.

Been a while, A look ahead towards 2011

This year's racing was successful in my book. I was able to upgrade from 5-4 on the road. Cross season I scored a bunch of top 10's and up'd from 4-3 for next season. I also switching from DMOS to Bikeiowa.

As far as actual plans for next year, Cross is going to be the Give-A-Shit season. Still going to do road, but during the warmer months, it's going to play second fiddle to MTB. My main goal is to try to do some 50 milers and 6 hour races in the dirt and work on the technical skills and climbing, but not completely abandon cardio work like this year. Road races i'm going to try and hit are Snake Alley, Tour of Lawrence circuit race and some road races. Going to be doing less crits than last year.

The bikes are going to be my Gary Fisher Ion(plus some paint and carpet fiber blemishes from the East Villiage Criterium), the masi cross will most likely function as the mtb and he cross, and i'm hopefully going to add a 26" dj to the mix. The Fisher may be rocking some Apex, dependent on my financial situation and whether or not I decide to continue with SS for cross or go geared. For MTB, the Masi will stay as it is with mtb bars and 44mm mutano raptors. May become a 1x9/10. Next year for cross the Masi will be using proper cross tires instead of the ridiculous 44's like this year and will have drops.

Hope to see you at the races! Here's some pics from last year, thanks to all those who I borrowed these pics from.

Got some quality time on the bmx bike, about 2 hours downtown. It was so much fun, turns out I can bunny hop about 3.5 ft high. It's a shame I cant put that to use on to many things cos scared to, but this was the first time riding in a month. The thing I did it on was trials-ishand tons of fun to ride. I'm also pretty good at riding on skinny things, like curbs and such. My feet, hands and fore arms hurt but it was worth it

I would write about my road racing adventures, but I'm still a five and haven't done anything good yet.

Big things happenin lately

First of all, I've joined everyone else in the 21st century of bicycle technology with this:
There will be a 3t cockpit going on that. I'm currently deciding on which seat i want to use, but once I do, all of my contact points will be taken care of. My Easton wheels will go on it so i'll have a set of pit wheels for road/cross racing.

In life, school just got out for the year so I'll have lots more time to ride and work.

Ever find something that just pumps you up?

This probably will. Though in your desire for it to be cyclocross season you may mistake people in cars yelling at you for heckling and when they throw things at you, you might mis-take them for failed hand ups.

Tuesday Night World Championships...

...That fuckin hurt. I'm thinkin it was a combination of not warming up and overestimating my fitness, but the more likely suspect is all the weight from the steel frame, aluminum wheels and cheap tires. If I was on a crabon fibre $10k beast, it would've been nothing but a thing keeping up with the main group. Anyway, once I was dropped i ended up riding with a couple of PRC women so it wasn't all bad.

Couple of first for the season today.

First time riding outside without beer(BRR) and without hurting so bad you consider murdering someone(CIRREM). I just planned a simple ride to Valley Junction to eat some tacos at Giff's but as it turns out, you can't get them on sundays. My back up plan was a grinder at Tavern Pizza. It was good, but not quite as good as the tacos would've been. The bike worked great other than the SS with 700x40 tires on a ride that was mostly asphalt. The weather was pretty good, didn't wear any heavy layers and nothing got very cold which was nice. The wind didn't even bother me. I was too distracted by the cars on 63rd unable to change lanes when passing.

Spring is here!

Looks like this weekend will be the first time I'll be riding the road bike outside since BRR. Either it's going to be a 2 hour ride and the spring classic or 3 or 4 hours on the roadie. either way it's shapin up to be a nice weekend.

CIRREM...Holy fuck

I did not expect that. I did 40 miles in 3 hours or so...I think. I'll post something with more clear thinking tomorrow, but for now, that's all you get.

Monstercross overload

And I'm done. Next time i'll just do a link to an album

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

It's been a while...

...but since my cycling adventures are starting to become something more than spinning away on a trainer or doing stupid roller tricks, i finally have something to report about.

The Masi is still in action, with similar specs as it had at jingle cross. This time it's upgraded.
-Nitto mustache bars(old 'stache bars were cheap and bent to shit from a fit of rage)
-an actual tension as apposed to a derailer
-40c knobbies to put it into monstercross territory

No pics as of yet. You're going to have to go to CIRREM for that. For those who won't be able to make it to CIRREM, I'll post pics of the gravel/beer/bicycle fueled mayhem.
